Abstract

The operation and final properties of using chemical silver plating on cotton and polyester fabrics were discussed. The specific performance of the silver-plated fabric could be obtained if an optimum chemical plating condition was chosen. The results showed that the fabrics plated by silver had better properties including the protection of ultraviolet radiation penetration, light fastness, and anti-static and anti-bacteria properties. According to the SEM results, the chemical silver plating could render uniform silver particles on both cotton and polyester fabrics. The chemical silver plating could give a unique appearance and technical finishes on many kinds of fabric such as cotton and polyester, resulting in the generation of many textile designs.
