Abstract

A study was conducted to evaluate the relativities of both appearance and conditions of chemical treatment on nylon metallic fabric. Five type of acid and alkali solutions were used with the addition of resist craft, and to prevent chemical reactions from generating reflecting areas in the design process, assistant materials were used. A range of nylon metallic fabric were prepared per unit with 0.08g and measuring 4 cm x 6 cm in size, with many additional resistant materials selected to create the patterns, which were wooden sticks, metal pieces, and stainless steel clips. For the chemical etching treatments, three types of acids, namely, hydrochloric acid, acetic and sulphuric acid, along with two types of alkalis, namely, sodium carbonate and sodium hydroxide, were used. The results show that the condition of the chemical solution is a major factor governing the corrosion of aluminum foil present in the nylon metallic fabric.
