Abstract

Airborne volatile hydrocarbons in Guangzhou streets were analysed by sorbent tube-thermodesorption-GC/MSD method in this study.Samples were collected at 32 various street sites in Guangzhou, and the charateristics and possible sources of monocyclic aromatics and normal alkanes were investigated. By using factor analysis on 13 hydrocarbons, the sources of volatile hydrocarbons in Guangzhou were further identified, namely gasoline traffie, industry and diesel traffic. The results by multiple linear regression indicated that the percentage of volatile hydrocarbon contributions by these sources is 64%(gasoline traffic), 23%(industry), 13%(diesel traffic)respectively.
