Abstract
As cancer treatments become increasingly targeted and personalized, the role of comprehensive rehabilitation programs for cancer patients is more important for improvised care. This chapter will explore how cancer rehabilitation can be integrated into a holistic and AI-powered approach to cancer care combining targeted chemotherapy and personalized immunotherapy. The chapter will cover the evolving background of cancer treatment such as chemotherapies and personalized immunotherapies using advances in genomics, proteomics, and artificial intelligence; providing insights into the effects of rehabilitation on side effects and functional impairments caused by cancer therapies and thereby improving the quality of life and long-term outcomes. The chapter will cover the evolving background of cancer treatment such as chemotherapies and personalized immunotherapies using advances in genomics, proteomics, and artificial intelligence; providing insights into the effects of rehabilitation on the side effects and functional impairments caused by cancer therapies and thereby improving quality of life and long-term outcomes. The chapter will focus on AI-based decision support systems, remote monitoring, and personalized rehabilitation strategies which can be leveraged to optimize the coordination of cancer treatment and rehabilitation and highlight how rehabilitation approaches may need to be customized based on specific mechanisms of action and side effect profiles of targeted chemotherapies and immunotherapies. Exploration of AI-driven data analysis of rehabilitation outcomes can document the continuous refinement of rehabilitation programs to better fulfill the evolving needs of cancer patients and strategies for the seamless embedding of AI-powered rehabilitation tools into clinical decision-making. Presentation of real-world examples of cancer centers that have effectively integrated rehabilitation into their AI-powered, personalized cancer care workflows. The chapter will discuss the potential advancements, such as the integration of virtual reality, gamification, and brain-computer interface to enhance the efficacy and accessibility of cancer rehabilitation in the era of precision oncology. This chapter can provide the literature on how an AI-driven approach to cancer rehabilitation can improve treatment tolerability, accelerate recovery, and lead to better long-term outcomes for patients receiving personalized and targeted cancer therapies.
