Abstract

A broadband beamspace adaptive beamforming structure for rectangular arrays is proposed. A set of frequency invariant beams are formed pointing to different directions and only one weight is attached to each of the beam outputs. Due to the greatly reduced number of adaptive weights, the system can achieve a much faster convergence speed. Compared to the existing broadband beamspace adaptive methods, the advantage of the proposed method is that there is no temporal processing of the received sensor signals, such as the tapped delay-lines or IIR/FIR filters. There-fore it is a system employing spatial-only information.
