Biomass Aerogels for Smart Thermal Management: Integrating Photo-thermal Conversion and Latent Heat Storage

Abstract

Novel aerogels with advanced thermal management were developed via vacuum freeze-drying chitosan solution containing CNT, graphene and phase change material (PCM) emulsions. The CNT and graphene provides the aerogels efficient photo-thermal conversion. Simultaneously, the PCM in aerogels stores and releases heat as the temperature changes. The PCM aerogel exhibited an enthalpy of 202.7 J/g, which still retained 156.1 J/g after adding 10% graphene. The excellent photo-thermal conversion of the graphene-added aerogel rise sample temperature over 60 °C under irradiation, which maintained over 24 °C for ∼18 min after ceasing the irradiation.
