Abstract

The implementation of a personal computer-based expert system for the diagnosis of a binocular vision problem is described. The knowledge base is built based on input from experts. The system is capable of guiding the operator through a sequence of necessary tests and utilizes the results to diagnose vision problems, including squints. Initial trial tests on this expert system have shown sufficient promise for it to be further assessed as a potential teaching aid for binocular vision diagnosis.
