Background proposition and its trigger - The case of genbenin affirmative sentences

背景命题是一种文献中很少讨论的言外之意现象,具有代表性的触发机制包括状语"根本"和"本来"。"根本"的作用是提示一个与所述命题相对立的、从广义上说要被否定的命题。这种言外之意现象与预设、隐涵都不尽相同,如何加以解释具有重要理论意义,可以从背景命题的性质以及触发机制加以探讨。||It is quite common in languages that some extra meaning could be inferred from the proposition represented by a clause or part of it.One of the cases is the discourse background proposition being investigated here,which is marked by a syntactic element in another clause,such as the adverbial genben(根本)that indicates the existence of a background proposition in the discourse that is in contrast with the proposition of the local clause.A background proposition is different from a presupposition which is based on the semantic content of a lexical item and is not the same as an implicature which is based on the whole proposition.The discussion on the nature and trigger~ing mechanism of background proposition will provide insights for the study of semantics and pragmatics.
