Abstract

Metallization has great potential for application in functional and decorative garments. The creation of contemporary metallized fabric is described where the performance aspects are important to the commercial requirement and high-tech applications. This paper evaluates the changes of polyester and cotton blended fabric (T/ C fabric) after the treatment with chemical silver plating. Based on the investigation results of the microstructure of the metallizing films, the best composition of the silver together with the proper processing have been developed for better performance and appearance. The characteristics of the metallized T/C fabric including colour appearance, physical modifications, mechanical performance and functional properties have been evaluated using advanced instruments. The overall modifications of the treated T/C fabric are discussed and the results are presented graphically.
