Abstract
Polarization diffusion in communication f ibers is studied. Diffusion of the states of polarization in an optical fiber is found to be anisotropic on the surface of the Poincaré sphere. The predicted anisotropy has signif icant implications for nonlinear evolution in long-distance communication system.
