An optimization-based parameter identification tool for geotechnical engineering

In this paper, ErosOpt, a useful tool for the development, analysis and application of an optimization algorithm, which is devised to solve the problems of parameter identification in geotechnical engineering, is presented. ErosOpt is programmed as an admixture of C#, MATLAB and FORTRAN, which offers a powerful environment for various kinds of optimization tasks in parameter identification. The proposed tool has four important features: (1) it covers a wide range of parameter identification problems; (2) it provides a number of soil models with a user extension interface; (3) it offers various efficient optimization algorithms; (4) it allows for visualization through graphical displays. Furthermore, the entire graphical user interface and usage instructions for ErosOpt are briefly illustrated in simple and practical terms.
