Abstract

This paper studies on operation semantics which is closely associated with design activities. Operation semantics describes designer’s operations, operational parameters and the meanings. An operation semantics exchange model is proposed to illustrate how operation semantics can be used to support distributed product design. The key issues involved in the model are also discussed, such as the operation semantics generation process, operation semantics retrieval methods and operation semantics representation by XML. A prototype system based on this model is developed to demonstrate collaborative process.
