Abstract

In the past, many researchers such as Peirce, Go et al, Cooper, Shinohara et al, etc. did much research work on bending rigidity in various directions but there is no paper discussed the bending hysteresis. With the existing models from previous researchers, the authors of this paper will apply these models to bending hysteresis of twill woven fabrics. The polar diagrams of the bending hysteresis from these researchers will be compared with the experimental results. The best model for prediction of bending hysteresis on cotton twill woven fabrics is then selected. According to Cooper's model, the polar diagrams of bending rigidity may show three types of variation between fabrics. One of the variations is dependent on a ratio called V, which can be used to predict the general shape of the polar diagram. Thus the effect of the ratio V on bending hysteresis of twill fabrics will also be investigated in the present paper. On the other hand, the skewness of twill fabric will affect the mechanical properties of the fabrics. Therefore, the present paper also investigates how the skewness affects the bending hysteresis of twill fabrics in different directions.
