Abstract

Studies on crossdockings have mostly been focusing on the physical layout of a crossdock or on a single crossdock. In this paper, we will investigate if improvement can be made with increase product visibility especially before and after the flow through the distribution centre. RFID technology would be introduced along with GPS system. The suggested crossdocking distribution system would be first modeled out using simulation software ARENA. Finally, to optimize the crossdocking distribution system, both heuristics and meta-heuristics (i.e. Genetic Algorithm) optimization method would be conducted and analyzed.
