Abstract
A project to develop an expert system for predicting fabric sewability and optimization of sewing conditions through quantitative formulation of the relationships between sewing problems and fabric, currently under way at Bradford University, UK, is described. Sewability problems are predicted by directly measuring only those important properties related to sewability by means of easy-to-use automatic modules integrated with a personal computer. A large section of the paper describes the development of a system for predicting seam pucker.
