Abstract

An enhanced hexagonal search algorithm for block motion estimation was proposed. The algorithm was proposed to further improve the performance in terms of reducing numbers of search points and distortion, where a simple prediction scheme and a novel fast inner search were employed. The experimental showed that the enhanced hexagonal search algorithm substantially outperforms the original one in terms of number of search points and distortion.
