An efficient storage strategy for robotic warehouse

Abstract

This paper presents an innovative storage strategy for robotic warehouses aimed at improving operational efficiency in order-picking processes. Leveraging real-world data and a comprehensive simulation system, the study demonstrates significant reductions in rack movements, particularly in scenarios with high product variety. The proposed strategy utilizes a product bundling approach, grouping high-frequency items together on the same rack, which reduces the number of robot trips. This method provides up to 40% improvement in robot movement efficiency for large warehouses, with two-product bundling being especially effective. Moreover, the strategy mirrors the simplicity of the traditional ABC classification method, making it both practical and easy to implement in various warehouse environments. The research not only confirms the effectiveness of the bundling strategy but also offers a scalable solution adaptable to different warehouse sizes, from small to large-scale operations.
