Abstract

In this study, an approach of textual fabrics segmentation using watershed-based image segmentation is proposed. Considering the relative broad transitional boundaries between the texture regions, the watershed of difference (WOD) is proposed instead of the commonly used watershed of gradient (WOG). To overcome the inherent shortcoming of the watershed method, the major markers can be selected either interactively or automatically, dependent on the purpose of the application. The experiment results show that the proposed segmentation technique provides quite good separation results and is of great potential in the application such as image-based texture fabric visualization in textile CAD and related visualization system.
