Abstract

This paper describes solution algorithms which cater for two major, often encountered, hydraulic features - branched channels and 'tidal flats' - in unsteady river flow modelling. Since they are usually involved in most prototype river channels, the simulation of the actual situation, through their incorporation, can be reflected more precisely. The model is then applied to study the tidal dynamics and potential flood hazards in Shing Mun River, Shatin, New Territories of Hong Kong, which is characterized by these two features.
