Abstract

An advanced grazing flow tube facility is commissioned at Aerodynamics Acoustics & Noise Control Technology Centre (AANTC) at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (aantc. ust.hk). The function of the facility is to test the acoustic performance of liners and develop acoustic metasurfaces under grazing flow conditions. The facility has a square test section with a dimension of 50 mm by 50 mm, and the maximum Mach number is 0.3. The highest sound pressure level of the incident wave can reach up to 145 dB in the frequency range of 500 to 3, 000 Hz. The flow velocity distributions are measured using a pitot-static tube. Based on the test rig, impedance eduction of an acoustic liner is conducted, and the results in non-flow conditions are verified by impedance tube measurements. Moreover, the effects of flow profile (i.e., using mean flow or shear flow as input) and sound pressure level on impedance measurement are presented.
