A study of garment for child patients in Hong Kong, China

Abstract

Child patients experience psychological nervous in a strange environment during hospitalization when separating from their families [1]. Quality management is a hot topic in many fields, including in hospitals. According to one of the authors, C.Y. Yeung, hospital garment is one of the quality concerns, which affects sick children physically and psychologically. With regard to the physical and psychological concern for child patients and quality management in hospital, the objectives of studying garments for child patients are as follows: (1) To set design criteria for child patients' garment so as to achieve physical and psychological comfort of wearing hospital garments; (2) To design garment by satisfying the requirements from child patients (aged 0 to 9) and medical personnel (nurses and doctors) so as to achieve total quality management in paediatric wards; (3) The design criteria set a guideline for child patients' garment development by collaborating three major studies on: clothing design, textiles technology and medical requirement.
