A eulogy of the late Professor James T. C. Liu with whom the author studied Song history at Princeton University's Department of East Asian Studies in the late 1970s and early 1980s. It notes the contribution of Professor Liu as a bridge of scholarly communication for historians on China from China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, the US, and Europe in the decades around the reform and opening of China in late the 1970s. It also appreciates Liu as truly a Chinese patriot who practiced forgiveness to China's invaders during WWII.
