A simulation approach to analyse error in buffer spaital analysis

This paper proposes a simulation model for analysing error propagation in buffer spatial analysis in a vector-based geographical information system. Since spatial data stored in GIS is not error-free, errors propagate and accumulate over GIS operations. Therefore, there is necessary to study error propagation in the process. The proposed model in this study measures the propagated error in buffer spatial analysis. The errors covered in this study include error of commission and error of omission of a buffer analysis. These errors are due to the difference between the measured location and the expected location of a buffer. In order to study the error propagation, a simulation approach is proposed and implemented to estimate these errors.
