Abstract
This paper presents a simple beam line model for the analysis of braced composite frames with semi-rigid beam-to-column connections. Based on the proposed model, equations and design charts for determining the moments and deflections of the composite beam, that take into account both joint flexibility and variation of beam sectional properties, were formulated. The moments and deflections so obtained were demonstrated to be in excellent agreement with those determined from rigorous finite element analyses. Since the proposed equations are reliable and easy to apply, the role of semi-rigid connections may be better appreciated and utilised with confidence by practising engineers.
