Abstract

A simple formula for calculating the mode-field diameter of large-mode-area endlessly single-mode photonic-crystal fiber (PCF) is obtained and used to estimate the splice loss of PCF/single-mode fiber. The accuracy of splice-loss estimation is less than 0.2 dB
