Abstract
This paper describes a new technique based on sensor networks for detecting mine methane. By contrast to the traditional methane detection, it has advantages of avoiding unnecessary missed alarm, which might lead to a serious consequence. In order to reduce the complexity of numeric calculation and improve the real-time performance of detection, a radial basis function network is applied for estimating information of the methane source. Simulations reveal that this presented method can effectively avoid missed alarm which probably happens with for traditional method. The study will develop a new field for the methane detection in mine industry.
