Abstract

This paper introduces a product model of remote expert system and its application to diagnose cracks in cast-in-place concrete based on a comprehensive integration of expert system technology and remote monitoring technology. The overall objective is to modernize the traditional-used expert system for crack diagnosis by integrating a net-based telepresence system, and the authors will achieve it though developing the remote expert system model and present an experimental study. The research methodologies adopted in this paper include literature review, product modelling, and case study. The result from this paper is the product model of remote expert system, which can be used to diagnose cracks in cast-in-place concrete with the help from real-time remote consultancies. The authors hope that the remote expert system can effectively facilitate the cast-in-place concrete crack diagnosis on sites. Moreover, potential applications of the product model are also discussed to improve the construction efficiency.
