title = "A Re-commissioned flexible full-scale wheel/rail test facility",
abstract = "A Full-Scale wheel/rail Test Facitlity (FSTF), originally built and operated by British Rail Research has been re-commissioned for testing at The University of Sheffield. Its control system has been completely rebuilt and modernised and a variety of structural and component improvements made. This paper describes the rigs capabilities and recent overhauls to the instrumentation, hydraulic and control systems before outlining some case studies that illustrate its novel use across a range of applications: These show how adaptable the rig is and the wide range of issues related to wheel/rail management that can be investigated using actual track and vehicle components.",
