Abstract

The influence of preheating conditions (including the critical energy content, the firing rate, and the equivalence ratio), on the initiation of a Superadiabatic Combustion (SAC) in a steady flow of propane/air mixture passing through a stack of stainless steel screens, is investigated experimentally in this paper. Maps of the critical preheating energy content versus initial firing rate and equivalence ratio, showing the no flame region and the stable flame region, are identified. It is shown that the preheating conditions have a great influence on the initiation of a SAC.
