Abstract

A novel scheme to tailor the spectra of long-period fiber gratings (LPG) was presented by introducing a step-change in the grating index profile. The index modulation diagram of the step-changed LPG was shown. The step-changed LPGs were fabricated using a two step ultraviolet (UV) beam scanning technique. Both the UV beam scanning and the laser operation were controlled by a computer during the LPG inscription.
