Abstract

Have universities forgotten their educational role and guiding students to grow up? With specific reference to Hong Kong, the university structure was a three-year program before 2012/13 academic year, which was modeled after the British system, but with the introduction of the higher education reform, university structure was changed to four years, with the additional year devoted to general education. At The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), the General University Requirements (GUR) were designed to promote the holistic development of the students. In this book we summarize the evaluation findings and answer the question of how well the desired graduate attributes were achieved. It is our modest wish that through this book, we will have a better understanding of the implementation of the general education program in Hong Kong.
