A Miniature U-shaped Fiber Refractive-index Sensor with High Sensitivity in Air

Abstract

We report a U-shaped optical fiber refractive-index (RI) sensor with a sensitive region < 1 mm and a RI sensitivity of 3.8×103 nm/RIU in air environment. This sensors is made by arcdischarge tapering of common single mode fiber.
