Abstract

This paper reports a liquid optical coupler that is integrated on a micro-photonicfluidic chip. The liquid optical coupler is realized using three laminar flow streams and light is coupled from one flow stream to the other flow streams. Efficiency of the coupling light can be tuned by changing the width or the refractive index of the middle flow stream. The liquid optical coupler can be employed for measuring the refractive index of the solution and has great potential applications in sensing and detecting biological and chemical materials.
