Abstract
A new approach for the implementation of hybrid simulation using commercial software PSCAD/ EMTDC and an in-house transient stability program (TSP) is presented in this paper. In this approach, detailed electromagnetic transient circuits, such as SVC with its controller circuits, are graphically constructed using the PSCAD (power system CAD) components library. While EMTDC (electromagnetic transients including DC) is responsible for simulating the electromagnetic circuits, TSP is used to simulate the rest of the electric power system with quasi-steady state models. With the help of the PSCAD/EMTDC software, much of the programming work for the implementation of the hybrid simulation can be greatly simplified. The effectiveness of this approach is validated with benchmark results obtained by the DCG EMTP software.
