Abstract

The preparation and characterization of trans-[RuVI(bpy)2O2]2+(bpy = 2,2’-bipyridine) are described. The observed high Ef° value (1.25 V vs. NHE) for the couple indicates that trans-[RuVI(bpy)2O2]2+is potentially useful for the photocatalytic splitting of water to oxygen.
