Abstract

Existing computational models for the distance between spatial objects are evaluated. The concept of the Hausdorff distance is introduced as a metric indicator. This distance is further extended to form a new concept-generalized Hausdorff distance, which is a more generic model suitable for different types of spatial objects. This distance model includes two measures: distance range and median Hausdorff distance. The former represents the dispersion of whole distance distribution, and the latter represents the central tendency of the distance distribution. In the meantime, a practical example with various types of spatial objects is provided to illustrate the implementation of this model in the Areview.
