Abstract

Since the unveiling of ChatGPT in November 2022, scholars have used it for research and discussed opportunities and challenges of applying Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) and Large Language Models (LLMs) by the tourism industry and tourists. While ChatGPT and other LLMs hold great potential to facilitate research, tourist experience, and industry operations, they have many shortcomings. Based on a reflective literature review, this article illustrates the need for a tourism-specific LLM and proposes a blueprint of a tourism-specific GenAI concept to guide its design.
