10-Gb/s, 20-km VCSEL optical access link at 1.5 μm with 23-dB power budget

Abstract

We demonstrate 23-dB power budget of a 20-km unamplified optical access system using a 1.54-μm, 10-Gb/s VCSEL. It is enabled by using continuous-phase frequency-shift keying/amplitude-shift keying format, DC-balanced line coding, and avalanche photo-detector.
