Abstract

My new book, “Fading of Hong Kong neon lights – The archive of Hong Kong visual culture”《霓虹黯色――香港街道視覺文化記錄》 involves the photo-documenting of over 500 still-existing neon signs since 2015 (350 pages). It prompted a historical, cultural and contextual study of Hong Kong signs, as well as the exploration of inter-related components of neon signs: its unique visual aesthetics and design, and the craftsmanship. The book just won the 12th Hong Kong Book Prize Award which is organized by Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) and Hong Kong Publishing Federation. The book has been shortlisted and awarded by the judges among 400+ entries for the final best 11 books in 2019. The official website of Book Prize Award is
