Abstract
The Ming court decision to canonize Wang Yangming as a genuine Confucian in 1584 after two rigorous debates that lasted for eighteen years. This study is a sequel to the first debate in 1572-73 studied in the author's earlier article, "The Debate over Recognition of Wang yang-ming," published in Harvard Journal of Asiatic Studies (Vol. 48, June 1988).
