Abstract
Review of a book on imperial politics in 16th-century China focusing on the rebellions since the Zhengde reign (1506-1521) and autocracy of the Jiajing reign (1522-1566) and its aftermath, which saw much struggle of the eunuchs and court officials as well as the bureaucrats themselves.
