Abstract
This paper makes a description for features of the high level degree constructions in modern Chinese from both the semantic level and the pragmatic level, which can help us to build an elementary concept for the relationships and differences between these constructions. We summarize the main weaknesses of the former researches: they pay too much attention to the functions of the elements of the constructions but ignore the functions of the whole constructions; most of these researches focus on the diachronic research of one construction but lack of synchronic comparison, etc. We hope to solve these problems by lateral comparison. The paper analyzes and distinguishes the high level degree constructions by more than ten features (such as subjectivity, degree level, the way we express the degree meaning, mood, emotion type, judgment, standpoint). According to this paper, we can acquire a systematic cognition of the distribution of high level degree constructions, which can help us to describe these constructions in a structural way and finally to process them automatically in the future.
