Abstract
In this review paper, we give a brief introduction of the past and present of the research in aeroacoustics and flow-induced noise. The main attention is focused on acoustic analogy, from which the main mechanisms of noise generated aerodynamically for representative set-ups can be explained. We also briefly introduce the related computational schemes and testing methods. Overall, we hope this paper will help to clarify some misconceptions in aeroacoustics, especially those from beginners. Finally, we propose some possible important research directions for the future.
