Abstract
A research of three hitherto unstudied mid-Ming dynasty community compacts (xiangyue) in Luzhou and Xiezhou (modern Changzhi and Yuncheng) in Shanxi province and Xuzhou (modern Xuchang) in Henan Province. It takes the implementation of this apparatus of local self-governance as an official input to realize the ideal of rebuilding community security in north China localities dated not too long before and after Wang Yangming's launch of the famous Nangang Xingyue (Cummunity Compact) in southern Jiangxi Province in south China.
