Abstract
This paper analyzes the changes in the acting skills of the actors in the Dan line of Bangzi opera from the 1910s to the 1930s through analysis of newspaper and magazine materials and recordings from the early years of the Republic of China. After female actors entered the Beijing theater scene in 1912, they shaped the performance style of the dan in plays sung mainly in the Bangzi cadence, and created a variety of female characters in new productions that reflected the current situation of the times. Instead of only playing the "women" created by the male actors, the female actors are now able to further create female characters with more depth and impact. Between 1912 and 1920, female actors played women on the stage and recreated the female characters in the plays, which can be regarded as their right to express themselves and their subjectivity has emerged.
