SESAR Young Scientist Award - Winner

Launched in 2012, the SESAR Young Scientist Award aims to recognise young scientists, who have demonstrated excellence in ATM and aviation-related research fields. The award also provides researchers starting out in their career with an opportunity for further professional development. A further objective of the award is to showcase the potential of young talent to formulate fresh ideas and solutions to the challenges facing ATM and aviation.

The SESAR Young Scientist is awarded every year during the SESAR Innovation Days that represents the SESAR Joint Undertaking's main event to share progress and disseminate exploratory research results.

The award contest is open to any scientist (Batchelor, Master or PhD) working in the abovementioned fields and who are citizens or residents in an EU Member State or an Associated Country to the Horizon2020 Research and Development Framework Programme (H2020).

SESAR Young Scientist Award (PhD) Winner 2024 is conferred upon Dr. Yutong Chen in recognition of his outstanding research on airspace conflict management. Leveraging artificial intelligence, he developed tailored optimization methods for traditional air traffic management (ATM) and U-space unmanned aircraft system traffic management (UTM) respectively. His achievements effectively improve airspace utilization efficiency, guarantee flight safety, facilitate large-scale UAV deployment, and drive the intelligent, automated and sustainable development of air traffic management.
