Description

Habibi community center for the Bersive 2 refugee camp is a unique and ground-breaking research project initiated and funded by Habibi International and HIS Foundation, and realised as a design and build project in collaboration between ABCD Collaborative , InSitu Project, Vide Terra, HIS Foundation, Habibi International, MedEast, Catalytic Action with also design support from Design for People and School of Design Hong Kong Polytechnic University through an asset based participatory design and construction process. The design started in May 2020 while the construction started in Nov 2021 and was completed in Oct 2022. The community center was designed to be a unique simple, flexible but robust facility for community, cultural and social gatherings as well as day to day informal uses. It also provides hope that one day when they go back to their hometown they can have the ability to build their own house with their own power and the existing asset within the community.
