Biography
Dr. Ziqing Zhu is currently an Assistant Professor (Research) at the Research Centre for Grid Modernizarion (RCGM) at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He obtained his Ph.D. from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and previously served as an Assistant Professor (Research) in the Department of Computer Science at Hong Kong Baptist University.
Dr. Zhu's research primarily focuses on the application of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and high-performance computing methods to power system operation, control, and electricity markets. To date, he has published over 30 high-impact journal articles, with 20+ of them as the first or corresponding author in JCR Q1 journals. He currently serves as an Early Career Researcher Associate Editor for IET Smart Grid (JCR Q2), Young Editorial Board Member for Protection and Control for Modern Power Systems (PCMP, JCR Q1) and Energy Conversion and Economics. He is also an active member of IEEE PES Taskforce on Power System Operations and Control with Quantum Computing. Dr. Zhu has received several prestigious awards, including the IEEE Transactions on Sustainable Energy Outstanding Reviewer Award (2023), Energy Conversion and Economics Outstanding Reviewer Award (2023), the IEEE PES Grid-Edge Best PhD Dissertation Award Finalist (2023), the Annual Best Paper Award of Integrated Smart Energy (2022), and the First Runner-up Prize in the PhD Dissertation Award from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (2022).
With collaboration of Professor Siqi Bu (Deputy Director of RCGM and Associate Head of Department), Dr Zhu is actively looking for highly-motivated Postdoc fellows, PhD students, and Research assistants in the following areas:
- Power system resilience-oriented optimal planning, dispatch, and control;
- Carbon emission market, hydrogen market, and relative supporting techniques with potential application in Hong Kong;
- Applications of AI, machine learning, and quantum computing in power systems.
Important Update: We are now actively looking for 3-4 highly-motivated PhD students and 1-2 Postdoc Fellows with interests in applying quantum computing to power system optimization. Please do not hesitate to contact Dr Zhu via email if you are interested!
