Biography

Dr. Jiao is an Associate Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). He received his PhD under the supervision of Prof. C.T. Liu from City University of Hong Kong in 2014 and worked as a postdoc at CityU in 2015 and in Prof. Christopher A. Schuh's group at MIT in 2016.He joined PolyU as an Assistant Professor in 2017 and was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in 2022.

Dr Jiao's research interests focus on the development of advanced structural materials, including advanced ultrahigh-strength steels, high-entropy alloys, high-temperature superalloys & intermetallics, and nanostructured alloys. He has published >100 journal papers, including 2 papers in Science, 4 in Nature Communications, 1 in Materials Today, and 20 in Acta Materialia.

Dr. Jiao serves as an Associate Editor for Materialia (Acta Materialia Inc.), Associate Editor for Frontiers in Materials, and Advisory Board Member of MetalMat (Wiley). He also serves as a reviewer for Nature Materials, Nature Communications, Acta Materialia, etc.

He received numerous honors and awards, including the World’s Top 2% Most-cited Scientists by Stanford University (single year, 2021 & 2022), Acta Materialia & Scripta Materialia Outstanding Reviewer Award for three times (2021, 2022 & 2023), Scientist Award from International Association of Advanced Materials (2022), Faculty of Engineering Merit Award in Research and Scholarly Activities (2022), Faculty of Engineering Research Grant Achievement Award (2021 & 2022), Most published authors in Acta Materialia (2020 & 2021), and Interemtallics Outstanding Reviewer Award (2014).
