Biography

Dr Han Xu (徐寒) is a professional translator and interpreter (Mandarin-English) certified by NAATI (Australian National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters) and CATTI (China Accreditation Test for Translators and Interpreters). She has over ten-year experience working in the translation and interpreting industry in China and Australia. Her speciality is in conference interpreting, including diplomatic, business, and educational settings. Before joining the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, she taught translation and interpreting at Monash University and the University of New South Wales in Australia.

Han is interested in conducting interdisciplinary studies to empirically investigate different aspects of interpreting and translation activity, such as issues related to quality, ethics, training and professionalism. Her research interests include corpus-based translation and interpreting studies, computational linguistics, quantitative linguistics, community translation and interpreting, and legal studies. Her research works are published in top-ranking journals in the field, such as Across Languages and Cultures, Lingua, Meta, Multilingua, Perspectives, Translation & Interpreting, and Chinese Translators Journal(《中国翻译》).

In addition to her academic role, Han serves as the National Treasurer and member of the National Council at AUSIT (Australian Institute of Interpreters and Translators). She has been actively promoting the professional development of translators and interpreters. Han has been engaged by a number of leading language service providers in Australia, such as All Graduates, 2M, to design and deliver training sessions to current practitioners to improve professionalism and ethical awareness.
